[03.11.2018] With the electric car you can drive in Austria from 2019 faster than with a combustor, purely electric then you can drive 130 km / h fast, while for the car with a combustion engine speed 100 applies.

On many sections of the motorway in Austria, the general speed limit of 100 km / h applies for air protection reasons, and from 2019, an electric car can then travel at 130 km / h.

For about 20 percent of the Austrian motorway and expressway network – this corresponds to about 440 kilometers – get electric cars from 2019 the "special right" 130 km / h (and thus 30 km / h than other cars) to drive.

This special scheme for e-cars was introduced because the Electric vehicles do not produce emissions while driving.

Elisabeth Köstinger (Minister of Sustainable Development in Austria, ÖVP) says:

"We want to convince people that it pays off in many ways to switch to an e-vehicle.

The path to achieving the climate goals does not lead to bans but incentives. "

In Austria, the share of regeneratively generated energy in 2017 was more than 72 percent, compared to only 33.2 percent in Germany in the same year.

The special regulation is intended to encourage more drivers to switch to an electric vehicle.

In other countries there are advantages for electric cars

The people with certain benefits of using an electric car to be brought, there are also in other countries. These include, for example, tax advantages, free parking, free charging stations or the use of the bus lane.

Whether or not these incentives will allow more people to buy an electric or plug-in hybrid car also depends on whether and how easily they can charge their vehicle at home.
If you can install a charging station in your garage or your own car park, you will be more prepared to do so than someone who might have to look for a public charging station every time.

With the topic higher speed limit for electric cars one must not forget that a higher speed also goes to load the range. Thus, there could still be many drivers who prefer to continue driving the 100 km / h.
