After Penske Truck Leasing acquired fully electric trucks from Daimler subsidiary Freightliner in its fleet at the end of 2018 in the USA, the transport company now received the first FUSO eCanter vehicles. Penske plans to use FUSO light trucks in urban distribution in California. Through its established service and after-sales network, FUSO, as an experienced truck manufacturer and part of the Daimler Trucks family, can ensure smooth operation of the eCanter.
Hartmut Schick, Head of Daimler Trucks Asia: "With the FUSO brand, Daimler has gained worldwide first experience with electric trucks in a wide variety of markets. We are very proud that with Penske, a big commercial customer in the USA, in addition to the sister brand Freightliner, now also relies on the FUSO eCanter for local distribution. Penske benefits from the global exchange of knowledge and experience within Daimler Trucks."
Major European markets such as Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Portugal as well as the USA and Japan are already in the hands of fully electric light trucks with a capacity of 129 kW and a payload of up to 3.5 tonnes. In total, more than 100 eCanter are currently on the road worldwide. The range of the 7.49-tonner of at least 100 km covers the demand of the customers in the inner-city distribution traffic without problems. The vehicle can easily be charged overnight, depending on availability with AC or DC chargers. With a fast charger, the charging time can be reduced to about one and a quarter hours.
"We are happy to introduce the eCanter in our fleet. We continue to invest in the latest available vehicle technologies for the benefit of our customers. With a guaranteed range of 100 km and its fast-charging function, the eCanter is a good option for reducing pollutant and noise emissions in urban transport in the fleet business"Said Brian Hard, President & CEO of Penske Truck Leasing.
