Plug-in hybrid with 63 km E-range

As the first BMW 3 Series Touring, the new G21 will also be available as a plug-in hybrid: From summer 2020, the BMW 330e Touring will expand the BMW Group's PHEV fleet. As expected, the current 330e saloon with state-of-the-art eDrive technology will function as a technology dispenser. The combination also uses the combination of four-cylinder gasoline engine and electric motor, with the XtraBoost provides even more power for a short time.

The internal combustion engine of the new BMW 330e Touring G21 provides 184 hp for propulsion, in everyday life of most customers, the 109 hp and housed in the housing of the eight-speed automatic electric motor but regularly play the lead role. The combination of both engines allows a system performance of 252 hp – which is boosted at kickdown by the XtraBoost for up to 10 seconds to 292 hp.

According to the provisional data, the BMW 330e Touring 2020 manages to reach the 100cc mark in 6.1 seconds under optimal conditions. Even more important: Depending on the tires and equipment, up to 63 kilometers of pure electric drive are possible in everyday life. The E-range was determined in accordance with WLTP and calculated back to the requirements of the NEDC for the purpose of better comparability.

In practice distances of around 50 kilometers should certainly not be a problem. This means that the BMW 330e Touring fulfills the requirements applicable in Germany for the reduced company car taxation of plug-in hybrids. For example, many potential customers can order the hybrid station wagon and only have to use half the gross list price to calculate the monetary benefit.

So far, there is no indication of the price of the plug-in hybrids, but with regard to the price difference for other drives, the base price for the BMW 330e Touring 2020 is likely to be around 53,000 euros. Even with photos, a little patience is required, apart from the additional flap in the front left fender, the design does not differ anyway from the conventionally driven models.
