BMW M4 DTM 2019 completes further tests with turbo engine

#MechCrunch

The new BMW M4 DTM with turbo engine has completed further test drives before the 2019 season. From Tuesday to Thursday Bruno Spengler and Timo Glock made numerous laps with the newly developed V4 engine, which sends more than 600 hp to the rear wheels of the race car and thus puts the previously used V8 naturally aspirated engine in the shade.

For the new engine, the exhaust system and the front section were adjusted with their cooling holes. In the field of aerodynamics, some changes have been made to front splitter, rear wing and rear diffuser. The lessons learned will be deepened from 15 to 18 April during further tests at the Lausitzring, before the first points of the DTM 2019 will be awarded at Hockenheim from 3 to 5 May.

Timo Glock: "After the long winter, I could not wait to get behind the wheel again and I was really looking forward to our new turbocharged BMW M4 DTM. I have to say that my expectations were not disappointed. You can clearly feel the plus in engine power and torque. Due to the changed aerodynamics, the car also behaves differently. These are things we need to adjust ourselves to as a driver and work on our driving style accordingly, but after my first days of testing, I can confirm that the new BMW M4 DTM is really fun. Even though the weather was not consistently optimal, it was a very productive test. We were able to take further important steps in the development of the new car and will continue this work in April at the Lausitzring. "

Bruno Spengler: "Although the conditions were not the best with the changeable weather, we were able to work off many points from our planned program and make further progress in the development of the car. It's great fun to be involved in the development of such a race car because you can see the steps taken during the winter tests. We have some work left to go before the start of the season, but at the Lausitzring test we have the opportunity to do so on the track. There we will then go into the details of the preparation for Hockenheim and further optimize the car for the first races. The whole team worked hard over the winter and did a great job to give us the best possible car. Now it's time for the final stages of preparation at the Lausitzring, and then the first races are coming. "
