Erlkönig video shows details of the new Über-M2

You can rarely watch Erlkönige in peace and quiet, but the latest video from the BMW M2 CS shows a prototype directly at the gas station. While the driver pays, Carspotter Jeroen has all the time in the world for a video that shows us many details of the upcoming Over-M2. If you are a bit familiar, you will immediately recognize the gas station – it is located in close proximity to the Nürburgring Nordschleife and is used regularly by countless prototypes.

The BMW M2 CS will be the top model of the current M2 generation and will be launched in 2020. The goal is clear: The CS version is to push the performance bar for compact athletes a bit further up. The technical basis for this is the current BMW M2 Competition, which with its 410 hp and a lot of technology from M3 and M4 already represents a very high-quality bounce base.

BMW M2 CS: Erlkönig video shows details of the new Über-M2

As in the case of the CS versions of M3 and M4, the focus on the new BMW M2 CS will be even more on race track performance, without neglecting the demands of everyday life. Some of the chassis components provided for this purpose will be shared by the upcoming Top-M2 with the big brothers, who will once again become the organ donor for the compact athlete on a 2-seater basis.

Even the inline six-cylinder engine S55 may boast somewhat stronger in the BMW M2 CS. While the M2 Competition uses a slightly throttled variant of the twin-turbo engine and sends 410 hp to the rear wheels, the CS is expected to use an expansion stage with around 450 hp. Whether he exactly meets the performance requirements of the competition models of M3 and M4 or formally has to respect a small respect distance does not matter in practice.

From a performance point of view, the engine is just one of many components that distinguish the BMW M2 CS from the competition anyway. As the Erlkönig video clearly shows, the CS receives a sharpened aerodynamics with more shaped front splitter and large Guerney Wing on the tailgate, also lowers the carbon roof from the center of gravity. Optionally, the M2 CS can be equipped with a carbon-ceramic brake system, which further reduces total weight and unsprung masses.

For the interior, some exclusive components are conceivable, especially the seats in the style of M4 CS could play a role. What measures the M GmbH plans otherwise, we will probably still this year: The official presentation will take place as usual a few months before the planned market launch in the spring of 2020.
