With a huge increase of 41.9 percent, BMW Germany closed May 2019. On the one hand, the month of last year was unusually weak, on the other hand, the growing availability of BMW 3 Series and other new products of recent months provide a fresh breeze for new registrations.

Nationwide, the Munich sold 26,995 vehicles, again underscoring the weakness of the same month last year: Despite the impressive percentage increase, the absolute figures behind Mercedes (29,793 / + 9.5%) and only just ahead of Audi (25,816 / -4.3%). MINI lost a significant 17.4 percent in May 2019, coming in at 3,780 units.

Diesel vehicles accounted for 33.3 percent of new registrations in May 2019, 16.2 percent more than in the same month of the previous year. The gasoline engines increased by 0.7 percent to a share of 59.0 percent and continue to dominate the events, while the alternative drives are slowly but steadily gaining: Pure electric cars are now in a total share of 1.4 percent – a big plus of 100.4 percent compared to the previous year, but the absolute figures of 4,630 units remain manageable. Significantly more Germans buy hybrids, which now account for 5.8 percent (+ 87.5%) of new registrations.

Since the beginning of the year, BMW Germany has sold 114,224 vehicles, 9.0 percent more than in the same period of the previous year, mainly due to the strong May figures. Although Audi only increased by 0.7 percent, it is still ahead of BMW with 124,438 units. With 137,109 units, Mercedes ranks clearly at the top of the German premium market, rising by 2.1 percent.
