Teeth that match your skin tone
If you’re thinking about getting braces, one of your considerations will be which color to get. There are pros and cons to every color, but a recent study concluded that there is one color that is most attractive: clear. Keep in mind that not everyone can get clear braces – your orthodontist will make recommendations based on your smile and facial shape. But when it comes to overall attractiveness, clear is number one. Not only is it proven more attractive than other colors, but most patients also report liking their experience better because they feel as though they have less metal in their mouth while wearing them. (Just a bonus!)

First, you need to determine what type of braces you want. Metal braces are still one of the most popular options, despite the fact that they’re no longer made out of metal. But not everyone is a fan—and kids who’ve never worn braces can be leery of having them installed. For these reasons, some parents opt for clear aligners.
Yellow vs. white vs. clear braces
Do a quick Google search for braces color wheel and you’ll see pages of information pop up. (We suggest skipping over many of these sites, as they make broad claims with no supporting evidence.) Instead, take a look at your local orthodontist’s office and see what colors braces are being worn by other patients in your area. This will give you an idea of which colors work best for your personal aesthetic. Many dentists are using clear braces to correct cosmetic flaws because it is transparent and very difficult to spot (that is, until you smile). For example, if you want your top teeth straightened but don’t want people to notice, clear might be a good option.
Avoid yellow at all costs
Yellow braces are considered to be one of the worst colors for braces. Yellow teeth are not appealing at all, so any colored braces with yellow in them will make your teeth look even yellower and brighter. Yellow is a great color for flowers, but on teeth, it just isn’t very attractive. This can be true of any bright color that clashes with normal tooth color. If you have to get colored braces (which we don’t recommend), try light pastels such as green or blue instead. You’ll find that these will tend to match your natural tooth color better than most other colors and can help you look more polished and professional when combined with a nice smile.
Choose a shade based on your hair and eye colors
There are many different colors of braces and it can be overwhelming to pick a color, but you should try to choose something that complements your hair and eye color. If you have dark hair and eyes, then you’ll probably want to choose light colored braces like white or clear. If you have blond hair and blue eyes, then your best bet is to go with yellow or white-gold. Yellow is an excellent choice because it goes well with both brown and green eyes as well as blue eyes. But remember: You need to pick a brace color that looks good on you!
