Owners of light trucks can be happy: In the event of flat tires, they will also receive a visit from the yellow angels in the future. Because the ADAC truck service expands its service to the new target group, whereby the first aid is now also aimed at handicraft businesses and delivery services, but also vehicle manufacturers and tire manufacturers and manufacturers.

From now on, tire service for the Sprinter class is no longer a blank spot on the roadside assistance map. With our offer, we create a cost-effective and reliable solution under one number and according to a standard. This service already has great interest among our mobility customers, "says Dirk Frhlich, Managing Director of ADAC Truckservice.

Despite the great demand, there was no offer so far. Why? Due to the wide range of rim and tire models, logistics with high handling and storage costs is very expensive. Which is why, for example, couriers or craftsmen had to be towed.

The ADAC truck service is therefore breaking new ground: the tires and rim are completely replaced. Covered are the models Mercedes Sprinter and VW Crafter as well as MAN TGE, Iveco Daily, Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer and Citroen Jumper.

It starts in the pilot regions in Bavaria, Baden-Wrttemberg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxony. From summer, all 185 ADAC partner workshops will be gradually connected.

Munich, June 13, 2019 – At this year's TDWI conference in Munich, NTT DATA, the leading provider of business and IT solutions, will be presenting its latest developments in the intelligent simulation of crash tests in the automotive sector. Integrating Machine Learning into the Finite Element Method (FEM), already proven in simulation, allows software and vehicle engineers to more quickly gain insights and sustainable results. This is another important step on the road to the mobility of the future and the economic implementation of autonomous driving.

Automakers have been carrying out crash simulations with FEM for decades to construct vehicles. Parametrization of FE models is highly complex and time consuming. The showcase of the global innovation partner NTT DATA shows how simulation data has to be prepared so that machine learning can be used and offers development engineers suggestions by means of so-called decision trees in order to find the optimal and safest vehicle design as quickly as possible. The decision trees serve the developers as a basis to derive future parameterizations.

The use of AI brings some advantages for automakers: Simplification costs are reduced, design time is reduced, and associated costs are reduced. In addition, it can be used to increase vehicle safety. Among other things, the solution provider accesses the latest research and development results relating to the use of AI in the vehicle simulation of the Japanese headquarters.

"Despite enormous investments and concrete roadmaps for the development of electromobility and autonomous vehicles, the German automotive industry is often criticized for oversleeping important trends. From the perspective of a globally active partner of the automotive industry, it is easy to understand why this impression can arise, even though it does not apply, "says Jens-Uwe Holz, Head of Automotive EMEAL at NTT DATA. A look at the different development cycles of automobiles and IT, especially software, shows: Here, worlds meet. "The digital transformation of the automotive industry requires a dialogue of mutual discovery between car makers and software developers," continues Jens-Uwe Holz. "With our software simulation, we are enabling a better understanding and collaboration between engineering engineers and original equipment manufacturer software developers, which provides more development and market speed that German OEMs need internationally."

NTT DATA will be represented at the TDWI conference in Munich from 24 to 26 June with numerous experts, use cases and lectures on the subject of autonomous driving.

Smart employees are worth gold to companies. And carmaker Skoda even bare coin. How is that? Quite simply: The Czech VW subsidiary encourages the workforce to actively contribute ideas for improvements throughout the company.

In 2018, the 8,462 Skoda employees submitted more proposals than ever before, namely around 30,000 in number. And best of all: The automaker has successfully implemented more than 60 percent of the ideas. The resulting savings amounted to the equivalent of at least 8.14 million euros. This in turn rewards the company with cash prizes amounting to around one million euros.

In addition to the financial reward Skoda raffles among all participants four times a year vehicles. In addition, they can win participation in events, such as a trip to the Ice Hockey World Cup.

Skoda has had an ingenuity and enthusiasm for innovation since the early days of the company, says Bohdan Wojnar, Skoda board member for Human Resources: "Our employees, who submit ideas for improvement within the framework of idea management, live up to this spirit." And they would contribute with their ideas to make processes more efficient, to produce more sustainably, to save resources, to reduce costs or to further increase safety at work: "I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for that."

In spite of the difficult environment, the BMW Group was able to increase its worldwide sales in May 2019 relatively significantly. The core brand BMW, in particular, is bucking the trend in the premium segment with a plus of 4.6 percent and a total of 181,888 units, which is currently pointing to the downside. The success of the core brand also pushed sales of the BMW Group into positive territory, even though MINI sales figures were 5.1 percent down on the previous year.

Since the beginning of the year, sales of BMW have been 1.6 percent higher than in the same period of the previous year, with the BMW Group posting an increase of 0.8 percent, breaking the million mark after just five months. In addition to 872,367 BMW and 137,698 MINI also contribute to 2,028 Rolls-Royce, in which both the new Phantom and the successful SUV Cullinan have a large share.

Sales drivers at BMW were mainly the X-models: The worldwide sales of the X5 grew in May by 10.2 percent, the X2 even increased by 33.1 percent, the X3 tops this value again with an increase of 88.4 percent clearly and the X4 even account for +92.5 percent. Growth across all X models in May 2019 is 30.3 percent. With a total of 82,425 units, they account for 45.3 percent of BMW sales.

The basis of BMW's success is its continued strong performance in China: 60,903 units represent an impressive 32.8 percent increase in the company's largest single market. Despite a significant increase in Germany, China has once again managed to stand for more units than the following markets, Germany and the US together.

Pieter Nota (Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for Customer, Brands and Sales): "This positive sales result clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of our model offensive. In May, we again increased sales more than the market trend and gained further market share. Particularly pleasing is the development of our new X models with an increase in sales of more than 30% in May. Sales of the i3 also continue to rise against the usual cycle and rose by 40% in the month under review. This marks an important milestone for us in May: we were able to deliver the 400,000th electrified vehicle since the introduction of the i3 in November 2013. "

Now we finally know it: Autonomous vehicles are female and under the sign of the "V" on the way. However, the letter should not be reminiscent of a sci-fi cult series, but in this case it stands for Volvo's mobility of tomorrow. And the latest vision of the Swedish manufacturer just has a women's name: "Vera". And what does this lady do?

"Vera" is an electric, connected and autonomous vehicle from Volvo Trucks and part of an integrated solution for the transport of goods from a logistics center to a port terminal in Gothenburg. The development is the result of a collaboration between Volvo Trucks and the ferry and logistics company DFDS.

The aim of the collaboration is the practical use of "Vera" in a networked system that enables a continuous flow of goods from a logistics center to a port terminal and from there to the whole world, explain the strategists of Volvo Trucks. "Vera" is designed for the transport of large quantities of goods with high precision over short distances.

"We now have the opportunity to test Vera in an ideal environment in the field and to further develop its potential for similar applications," says Mikael Karlsson, vice president of Autonomous Solutions at Volvo Trucks. The goal is to realize a networked and tower-controlled system of several Vera vehicles. The aim is to achieve a seamless and constant flow of goods in order to react quickly to changes in demand and to increase efficiency, flexibility and sustainability.

"We want to be at the forefront of connected, autonomous transportation, and this collaboration will help us to develop an efficient, flexible, sustainable and long-term solution for autonomous vehicles that arrive at our gates – for the benefit of our customers, the environment and our business "says Torben Carlsen, CEO of DFDS.

Over 30 million customers can not shirk. The VW Passat is the most successful mid-size vehicle in the world. Now the Wolfsburg have rigged him and the Passat is on request temporarily to the electric car, he is partially automated on the road and on request online. That will appeal to the younger generation. But even for the "Best Ager" VW has the Passat the right vehicle in the portfolio. In September 2019, the sedan and the Variant comes on the German market.

A novelty in the program is the Passat GTE. This is a stand-alone model version. It is the first model of a new generation of VW plug-in hybrid models with a much wider range according to the manufacturer. Visually recognizable on specially designed for the hybrid version 17-inch alloy wheels (type "Montpellier"), there are trapezoidal panels for the exhaust system and in the area of the A-Sule is the words "GTE".

Inside, the pilot receives a 3-zone air conditioning "Air Care Climatronic", comfortable blue-colored fabric seats – as you're used to from VW – with an excellent lateral support and a subtly perforated leather steering wheel. No hard plastic impression, but a fine feel. In the rear, three people are lodged on the long journey, legroom and enough space for five travelers are standard on the Passat. There is also something on the ears: The Danish hi-fi specialist Dynaudio has a 700-watt sound system very elaborately adapted to the interior of the new Wolfsburg.

During our first test drive, the instructor tells us that the battery only weighs about 130 kilograms. Charging takes about 5 hours on a conventional household socket. For the commuter, who does not have a long way to the job, a real alternative. Charged overnight, the purely electric range is up to 55 kilometers on the Variant and 56 kilometers on the sedan. These values are based on the new WLTP cycle, with 13 kWh of stored energy, VW has managed to tickle out 20 kilometers more electrically than the previous Passat.

The test car starts with sufficiently charged lithium-ion battery in "E-mode". The high-voltage battery of the Passat GTE and the Passat GTE Variant can be charged via the external power supply or while driving via the internal TSI engine and recuperation. In order to be able to drive specifically in the "E-Mode" at the end of a longer drive in the city, VW has reconfigured the operating modes of the hybrid system, thus simplifying the recharging of the battery while driving. Instead of five operating modes, there are only three: "E-mode" (purely electric driving), "GTE" (sporty driving with full system performance), "hybrid" (automatic change between E and TSI engine).

The automotive environment with the Passat GTE offers many possibilities. In giant cities like Berlin, according to the manufacturer, the greater energy content of the battery is sufficient to cope with most of the daily distances completely electrically and without emissions. On longer distances and above 130 km / h, the powerful electric motor supports the TSI petrol engine of the Passat GTE. The electric thrust acts like an additional booster, which offers a very special kind of power development, especially in the sporty mode "GTE", since electric motors deliver the maximum torque from one second to the other. One thing is certain: the Passat GTE plug-in hybrid drive is a key technology component for the new era of electromobility.

The Passat GTE aims to merge the benefits of electric drive and the qualities of a long-haul vehicle into one of the most efficient mid-range models of today. Zero emission in the city, clean efficiency on the long haul: The 160 kW / 218 hp Passat GTE is one of the first vehicles in its class to reach the limit values of the Euro 6d emissions standard for new cars from 2021 onwards. In addition, the GTE example Germany – for company car drivers is economically attractive, since they must pay monthly only 0.5 instead of 1.0 percent of the gross new vehicle price.

VW brings the Passat with a new equipment structure on the market. The basic version will henceforth be called "Passat". This is followed by the average equipment level "Business". The top equipment bears the name "Elegance". "Business" and "Elegance" can also be ordered with an "R-Line" customization. Parallel to these versions, the new Passat will again be available as an independent "Alltrack" (four-wheel all-rounder with off-road capabilities).

The slogan "Volkswagen We" – open to new ideas – is very important to VW. With "Volkswagen We", the Wolfsburg have developed a digital platform to bundle mobile online services and very easy to offer and deliver. The offers are developed from an open system that is constantly evolving, according to the group. At this point, Volkswagen is consistently opening up to specialized partners and designing new services together with them. The individual "Volkswagen ID" is intended to give all customers of the brand central access to all Volkswagen Services.

The price for the Passat Estate GTE is 45,810 euros. Limited to 2,000 copies, the Variant R-Line Edition can be had from 62,830 euros. The Passat will retain its large fan base, hopefully it will continue to delight us after 2022. The VW Group is making great progress in the development of pure electric cars.

The electric car VW ID.R is a purely electric powered racing car, including the battery cells, 2 electric motors and the driver, the Stromer weighs less than 1,100 kilograms.

The configuration of the ID.R can be adapted to any type of race, so the number of batteries alone has a big impact on a race. Because each installed battery cell means a slightly higher range, at the same time increases the weight.

The system power of the electric motors is 500 kW (680 hp), the energy storage consists of 8 times 56 cells, which are housed in two blocks next to the driver and behind the monocoque.

The top speed is 270 km / h, the acceleration from standstill to 100 km / h, the electric car creates in 2.25 seconds.

The Volkswagen ID.R is ready to defend its title at the "Goodwood Festival of Speed" (4 to 7 July). Last year, Romain Dumas set a new electric record at the prestigious race in southern England in 43.86 seconds at the wheel of the all-electric race car. At the Goodwood Hillclimb, the Frenchman set the fastest time in 15 years on the 1.86-kilometer circuit. The ID.R, sporty spearhead of ID electrically powered production vehicles. The family is about five weeks after the lap record for electric vehicles on the Nürburgring Nordschleife the next challenge.

The electric car VW ID.R can be adapted for any kind of race

Dr. Frank Welsch (Head of Development Volkswagen Passenger Cars) says:

"The electric drive heralds a new era in production vehicles. Volkswagen makes do with its pre-market ID. An important contribution to this.

The 'Goodwood Festival of Speed' as a fascinating bridge between the past, present and future of the automobile is the perfect stage to demonstrate the power of Volkswagen's electrical engineering. "

Sven Smeets (Volkswagen Motorsport Director) adds:

"Last year we were just three weeks after the record run at Pikes Peak in Goodwood at the start and have used the technical configuration of the hill climb. This year, for the first time, we are entering an ID.R specially prepared for Goodwood. "

The main focus of the engineers is on a specially designed for the short distance drive configuration.

François-Xavier Demaison (Technical Director Volkswagen Motorsport) says:

"We've developed another evolutionary stage of the ID.R, a sprint version with a smaller battery to further reduce weight.

We also chose a much more aggressive energy management strategy for the very short distance. For the Sprint in Goodwood very high performance is required over a very short period of time. "

Tradition meets modernity: the "Goodwood Festival of Speed"

Since its premiere in 1993, the "Goodwood Festival of Speed" has become one of the world's largest motorsport events, attracting around 180,000 visitors each year. You will experience a weekend of demonstration rides and timed scoring of motorcycles, rally cars and racing and formula cars from all epochs of motorsport history. On a 1.86-kilometer sprint track and a gravel road over 2.5 kilometers, motor racing legends compete with current professional racers.

Romain Dumas (Volkswagen driver) says:

"The atmosphere in Goodwood is unique. Nowhere else in the world are so many famous drivers and legendary racing cars gathered in one place. "

And in hardly any other event can the technical progress of the automobile be seen so well over the decades.
